The most popular baby boy's name Jack again, whilst Lewis hangs onto second place; both names have kept these positions for the last 7 years. James moves up to third. Biggest climbers included Lucas and Nathan which both enter the top 20; and Kai, Rory, Sam, Archie, Ross and Kenzie. Biggest fallers included Kieran, Taylor and Brandon.
Sophie is again the most popular baby girl's name in Scotland, having held the number one spot for the last 5 years. Olivia moves up to number 2, and Ava climbs to third. Other gilrs' baby names increasing in popularity in 2009 included Amy, Lily and Mia; all of which are in the top 20. Others moving up the ranking include Evie, Amelia, Daisy, Madison and Millie. Fallers included Rebecca, Cailtion, Iona, Robyn, and Cerys.
In total over 4,000 different names were used with the top 50 names accounting for 43% of registrations. Nearly 2,600 babies were given unique names.
