Is shopping online safe? Very, if you take care to choose the right shop! With most online shops you let the shopkeeper know your name, address, and details of what you are buying at their 'shopping cart', then you arrange payment at the bank's secure site, not the shop itself. Any shop displaying a WorldPay or Paypal logo will have this sort of arrangement and the shopkeeper could not even see your credit card details even if he wanted to. At secure sites you will see a gold padlock either in the address bar or at the bottom of your screen depending on which browser you are using. The address will also start https rather than http.

 

Some shops have their own secure page where you leave all your details, including your card number. With these sites you are trusting the shopkeeper. Of course the vast majority will not abuse your trust, but there is a small risk. We advise you to look for the WorldPay, Paypal or similar logos.
